Greetings from Tim Rouse | The Pro Shop Northamptonshire County Golf Club, PGA Golf Professional |
Many of you will have heard of the Dawn Patrol, they are a group of members who started playing early in the morning often before they went to work. The members soon became known as the Dawn Patrol.
Dawn Patrol 50th Anniversary on the tee
The Dawn Patrol celebrated their 50th anniversary on Thursday 23rd July. Fifty two members played a 4 ball better ball stableford off three-quarter handicap. The winning score was 42 points recorded by Ty Coxon & Mike Rickards. The match was followed by a meal with a main course of lamb shank (the only time you can use this word in golfing circles) and vegetables.
Past Club Captain Robin Patterson, who is the longest playing Dawn Patroller first playing 41 years ago, recalled some happy memories of past Dawn Patrollers. Our Club Chairman, David Green, proposed a toast stating that the Dawn Patrol was a valuable asset to the Club, especially in welcoming many new members.
Neil Souter's book "Northamptonshire County Golf Club" published in 1995 stated the Dawn Patrol was formed in 1965 by 7 members who played 4 ball better balls on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 7.30am - everyone was welcomed to attend and sure to get a game.
This format has stood the test of time and is unchanged to this day.
Ladies
Viv McManus was the overall winner of the Ladies' Charity Medal. Playing in her first Medal as an 18-hole member, she came in with a nett score of 71 and cut her handicap to 33. She will go on, along with Gillian Curley to represent the club in the County Charity Medal at Kingsthorpe GC on 17th August.
Juniors
Last week, both Junior Teams were in action, at home against Prior's Hall. Both teams made home advantage count as they recorded 4 - 0 and 3 - 1 wins.
9 Holes Stableford scores from 19th July
W Amos 23 points, V Cartwright 22, J Harris 19, J Hartwell 13
On the Course this Week
Weather permitting, the greens staff week will have Topdressed greens 7a, 8a, 9a on Monday and applied granular feed to main course - also on Monday
Some of you will have noticed when it hasn't been raining, that there is water by the 15th green. A repair is needed to the irrigation system where a pipe has burst.
If the rain stays away Spray brambles will also take place.
Kind regards Rob Hay
Deeks Salver
Unfortunately due to the heavy rain the Deeks Salver had to be postponed to the 13th September.
County Cup
This week, the club invite the Countries best Amateurs to play in the County Cup. Some of the past winners include Mark James, Peter McEvoy, Pip Elson, Paul Downes, Glen Krause, Keith Waters, Gary Wolstenholme, Gary Boyd & Oliver Wilson all who have progressed to be Walker Cup, Ryder Cup or European Tour Players.

| What's the difference between the RSi 1 and RSi 2 irons? And what's this we hear about mis-hits going further and being less destructive? Find out more by watching this video and speak to one of the team about TaylorMade's RSi irons... |
| The reason we ask is because this ball has been getting a lot of good reviews. It uses a low compression core to help amateurs compress the ball more easily, so it's long. You'll get good reaction around the greens, too, because of the softest and most durable Urethane cover Callaway has ever made. |
