Greetings from Tim Rouse | The Pro Shop Northamptonshire County Golf Club, PGA Golf Professional |
Rachel Smith is Ladies' Club Champion
Well done to Rachel Smith who retained the Ladies' Club Championship after edging out Gillian Curley in a play off after both had tied with a gross 80.
Playing holes 1 and 18, it was Rachel's birdie on the 1st hole that gave her the edge after finding the green in two.
It was the hottest day of the year when the Ladies Club Championship teed off. Unfortunately 2 players did not make it all the way around and the paramedics had to be called. "Stay hydrated" is a common phrase you often hear from playing sports and on the golf course. Optimal hydration can improve your golf game mentally and physically.
Since the brain is made up of 85% of water and is water inefficient, it has top priority in regards to blood circulation. Drinking the correct amount of water will ensure optimal blood flow to the brain which will enable you to focus on the golf course.
The human body is composed of 25% solid matter (solute) and 75% water (solvent). For instance, the nucleus pulposus of an intervertebral disc is composed mostly of water. This water volume in the disc supports the majority of the weight of the upper body; therefore proper hydration can be a preventative measure against low back pain. Water also acts as a lubricating agent for joints which can relieve pain .
The message keep drinking on these hot summer days.

It was pleasing to see that many Ladies played well in last week's medal. Well done to Denise Bellamy-Walton who returned another fine score. Denise was the overall winner courtesy of countback from Kate James who finished second with a nett 72 as well. Marianne O'Connell won Division two with a nett 73 and was also the winner of the putting competition.

The course is pretty busy this week, so topdressing will be delayed until next week and maybe the week after to get back into our routine again.
Spray brambles continues weather permitting and trimming bunker edges to keep up apperances.
The club have hired a Graden machine. We should have the machine from mid-July, so we are planning to hollow core and Graden the 3 holes the week of the Charity Pro-AM (13/7/15). This will give us an all important trail run before we head out onto the main course.
Also, we will be applying a granular fertiliser the week before the maintenance week. This is to ensure the grass is healthy, strong and not stressed before we start. This will be the week of the County Cup. Therefore the greens will look very healthy and green but may not be the fastest they have been this year.
There is still a small amount of disease on some greens but it is not spreading. There will be an application of fungicide next week to prevent or seriously reduce any signs of anthracnose this year. Greens with high thatch content also tend to suffer from disease outbreaks after they have been opened up with aeration. The fungicide will also help to prevent this too.
Kind regards,
Rob Hay
