Club Championships

Paul Gooding's first appearance in the Men's Club Championships was a successful one for the +1 handicapper. Shooting rounds of 75 & 70 for a 5 over par total he finished 3 clear of Harry Larkins.

Fergus Robinson won the Nett competition The George Mobbs Trophy on count back from Lee Ault on the afternoon round. I am sure George who sadly passed away just a few weeks ago would have enjoyed seeing his trophy presented to young Fergus.

Bostock Trophy - Paul Godding 145
2nd gross overall - Harry Larkins 148
3rd gross overall - Tony Lord 150

George Mobbs Trophy - Fergus Robinson 144 (70)
2nd nett overall - Lee Ault 144 (71)
3rd nett overall - Harry Larkins 144 (74)

1st am gross - Jack Hall 74 1st am nett - Jack Hall 70
1st pm gross - Matthew Myers 70 1st pm nett - Paul Stones 69

Junior Club Championship

The Junior Club Championships followed on Sunday. It was great to see both the 9 hole and 18 hole Championship so well supported this year, a huge thanks to all those involved in making it such a success.

The 9 Hole Cup

Ruben Sanchez was the runaway leader this year with a fantastic 20 points, which will ensure his handicap will also come down.

1st R Sanchez 20
2nd F Hamill 16
3rd J Beal 16

18 Hole Junior Championship

The Allitt Cup for best gross went all the way to the last with Juniors' Captain Rhys Taylor chasing Charlie Salter, the outcome favoured Charlie who managed to secure a 1 shot victory with a gross 77.

The Jones Cup for best nett was hotly contested by two sisters - Millie and Hattie Billson. On this occasion Hattie winning courtesy of a nett 68 to Millie's nett 70. A special mention for round of the day from Charlie Harte who shot a gross 96 nett 65, well done Charlie!

Unfortunately Charlie couldn't claim the Jones Cup as his handicap wasn't CONGU registered on the day but with his new handicap of 28 that is no longer the case.

The Allitt Cup - 1st C. Salter, 2nd R. Taylor, 3rd M. Myers

The Jones Cup - 1st H Billson, 2nd M Billson, 3rd R Taylor

Seniors - Denise Walker

It seems we are a home team and do not travel well! Four away matches and four defeats now after visiting Longcliffe and Kirby Muxloe in the past week. The selection committee will have to take more care with the pairings to see if they can find some success on our travels.

We are always entertaining however! Our captain at Kirby brightened everyone's day by turning out in one FootJoy golf shoes in white and pastel blue and one adidas white trimmed with black! A vision at the front of the field. It didn't help though as he and his partner lost along with most of the others as we went down 5.5 to 1.5.the only winners were Ray Kingston and Ronnie Steedman. Nigel Kay and Steve Battison bringing in the other half.

Kirby was not in its usual fine condition unfortunately especially as some had applied Round Up to their tees and rendered them completely bare of grass! Longcliffe is a venue where we repeatedly get a stuffing and this year we did not disappoint losing 5.5 to 2.5.

The list of those defeated is too long and perhaps too embarrassing (or so I hear on the grapevine)for them all to be named. For those who delight in seeing their successes in lights we shall continue to record and publish their names in these match reports in future. The winners on the day were William Wells and Peter Darby, David Whalley and David Alston, with John Draper and Ray Kingston getting a half.

Our captain for the day, who shall remain nameless, set the scene up front on one particular hole by losing his driver whilst taking relief (not in this case a golfing term) and not realising it until he got to the following green by which time he was disqualified for playing his partners ball. I think you call that a "buggers muddle'.

Life on the Seniors circuit is regularly fun and we should not forget it, which of course we are bound to do!!

Ladies

The sun shone for our Ladies President, Heather Williams, with perfect conditions for golf.

After starting the 11am shotgun start Heather, husband Edward and her sister and husband greeted the players at the prettily decorated refreshment stop by the 7th Green.

Players were meet with a glass of Pimms and some delicious home made things to eat. After play a wonderful cream tea was enjoyed by everyone in the club house, followed by prize giving.
