Mid-week Winter League

The Mid-week Winter League Final was played on Wednesday of last week with Vice Captain Jeff Jacobs as Referee.

Peter Dugmore and Phil Smith beat Adrian Parr and Stephen Battinson 4&3.

Weekend Winter League

Jeff Jacobs beat Russell Sandiford and Steve Chalcroft on the last hole to win one up in a close match.

Course news

Latest course updates

On course this week overseeding continues on fairways and semi-rough. We also have a vandal on the course. The badger has been very active digging around the course for grubs each night.

Very disappointing for the course staff to turn up each morning and start by repair the badgers' vandalism from the night before.

Please give way to the course staff in the mornings they have priority to get the course ready.

Sunday Morning Academy Coaching

The spring/summer term starts this Sunday for our academy juniors. With a turbulent winter they have done extremely well. Upcoming dates are as follows:

Sunday 8th March.
Sunday 15th March.
Sunday 22nd March.
Sunday 5th April.
Sunday 17th May.
Sunday 7th June.
Sunday 21st June.
Sunday 28th June.
Sunday 5th July.
Sunday 12th July.

Academy coaching - £50 for 10 sessions. Payment prior to first date please. Juniors must be a member of the club to receive this subsidised coaching.

Junior Half-term Camps (open to all junior members)

Focus:

Developing playing skills and course management to lower scores to reach 18 hole handicap standard.

Dates:

Thursday 20th February.
Thursday 9th April.
Thursday 16th April.
Thursday 28th April.

Format:

9:00am - Meet at pro shop.
9:15am - 1215pm - Coaching.
12:15pm - 1:00pm - Lunch.
1:00pm - 3:30pm - Play.

Hawthorns Scholarship

Club members and residents at the Hawthorns had the pleasure of presenting a cheque for £750 to Joseph Quinn to help him with his 2020 season. This is a continued partnership between the club and Hawthorns with Luis Witherall being the previous recipient.

The scholarship is aimed to support the junior with their competitive season and in the process the selected junior reports back to Hawthorns with their season and visits the residents at Hawthorns.

The art of putting

‘Drive for show, putt for dough’. No doubt you have heard this one a few times before but considering putting equates to between 30 to 50% of our shots on the course, it also has a large element of truth in it.

The whole puzzle

If you're considering buying new irons this year, have a think about how they are going to blend into the rest of your set. The idea is to have equal yardage gaps between each club in your bag so, if you are going to treat yourself, it might be worth replacing a long iron with a hybrid that is easier to hit.

Take danger out of play

The illustration here is a good example of where a hybrid comes in handy. When our driver brings danger into play and a long-iron leaves us too far to the green, a hybrid is the perfect option.
