One From the Tour Here is one for you from PGA Tour. It happened to Harold Varner whose 72 became a 74 due to a two-shot penalty. Harold noticed a crack in his driver before he started his round and told the officials that he would start with 13 clubs and get his driver delivered to him on the course. All of which is fine in the rules. What then went wrong is that one person delivered the clubhead and another brought the shaft, he put the two parts together and hit a drive. According to the rules, you can’t assemble a club on the course and then use it and the rule, which isn’t a new one, is in place to stop players from building a club to suit the conditions. Here’s what Rule 4.1b(4) Had the club been complete – then that would be within the rules. |
