Seniors Championship
Well done to Peter Bedwell who won the Senior's Championship with 41 points. Peter got off to a very hot start and found himself on 16 points after the 6th hole! Peter joined the club in 1997 and set himself the target of getting down to a 12 handicap, which after his winning score he has now achieved. Well done Peter!
Saturday Stableford
The senior players are in form this week with Jim Parker taking the overall win on Saturday and Brian O'Connell the best gross score.
Jim Parker 42 pts
Division 1 Andy Cox 40pts Brian O'Connell 39 pts Paul Harris 37pts
Division 2 Josh Bryanton 41 pts Simon Heath 38pts Peter Twisleton 38pts
Division 3 Jim Parker 42 pts Grant Newton 39 pts Laurance Roach 39 pts
The seniors have had two matches since the last report:
Wellingborough away
Unfortunately a resounding loss by 4 matches to 2. An odd one to report on this one. Whilst we were giving loads of shots in virtually every game, with as many as 14 shots being given in one match, to use that as an excuse would fall on stony ground. The reason being that Roger and David whilst giving shots, won with a tremendous 8 and 6 score line to show how it could be done. Funny game golf!!
The course was in good condition but the greens were disappointingly slow.
Street/Cooch lost 3 and 2
Walker/Clark lost 4 and 3
Osborne/ Bishop lost 5and 4
Brady / Adams won 8 and 6
Godden/Fitzpatrick won 1up
Wells/Kennedy lost 5 and 4
Luffenham home
A better performance rendering a 5.5 to 2.5 victory on a beautiful day at Brampton. Unfortunately the greens treatment detracted from the course presentation, whilst this cannot be avoided it was a shame for the visitors.
This result overturned the loss at Luffenham earlier in the season and saw the Brampton Buck retained 9 to 7 A much tighter game this one with half of the matches going to the last hole
Roberts/Spokes won 3 and 2
Walker/Hufton won 1up
Wells/Boyce won 1up
Sleath/Andrews lost 2 and 1
Fitzpatrick/Gowen lost 5 and 4
Godden/Steedman halved
Brady/Adams won 4and 3
Kingston/Darby won 1up
Two points worth a mention form these results
- Roger Brady and David Adams continue their winning combination this season with their 5th victory. Well done.
- This was Paul Osborne's first defeat in his debut season
Many thanks to David Adams for producing our greetings card/ menu for the dining table. An idea we have stolen from Frilford and which provides a nice touch.
Other news
There will be a further combined Seniors and Ladies Texas Scramble on Monday, 10th November, the sheet will be posted shortly. The format has been enjoyed so much that it was felt we could squeeze in another. Let's hope for kind weather.
Collingtree have initiated the Northampton Challenge Cup for seniors and the first event will happen on October 15th at Collingtree. Roger Street has circulated a note explaining the format and outlining the interim action taken to enable us to participate at what has become short notice. Next season will see us have a more considered qualification process in an effort to be fair to everyone interested in participating.
Essentially Collintree, Northampton, Overstone Brampton Heath and ourselves will field 4 better ball teams to play a Stableford round with the best 3 scores grossing up to identify the winner. Collingtree have provided the trophy and will host the first match which will be repeated at the various venues each year by rotation.
The other Northampton clubs were apparently approached yet declined the invitation. That it for now, the season is nearly over with the last 3 matches to be played in the next 3 weeks. Thanks to all who have contributed especially those who have filled in at the last minute on the occasions that has been necessary.
For those members with a keen eye, you might have noticed that several of the benches and on course rain shelters have had some TLC. I'm sure you will recognise the past Captain Laurie Johnson who came to the call with brush in hand.
On Friday, 19th September the Ladies had a wonderful day's golf at Edgbaston Golf Club where we received a very warm welcome. First : Chrystal Harris and Heather Williams with 38 points on countback
Second : Alison Shine and Louise Hemmingway also with 38 points
Third : Marianne O'Connell and Kerry Spooner with 36 points on countback
