Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. This week, we take a look at a fan-favourite's second win on tour this season, whilst giving you the rundown on how we can help you get the most out of your game through our coaching and fitting services. Enjoy the read!

Rules news

So, what's new?

In 2019, if a player's ball at rest might have moved, new Rule 9.2 will introduce the "known or virtually certain" standard. This means that something is at least 95% likely and it will apply to all questions of fact when deciding:

Whether a ball at rest has moved, and
What caused a ball at rest to move

If a player's ball at rest might have moved but this is not "known or virtually certain", it is treated as not having moved and must be played as it lies.

Junior news

Family Texas Scramble

On Sunday the Juniors had their Family Texas Scramble followed by their trophy presentation. With 48 playing it was a well-supported day with family members join them for food afterwards.

Thank you to Sue Barrick, Alex Dunkley, Geoff Pook for their help on the day in supporting Marianne & Brian O’Connell.

Luis Witherall named his Junior Vice-Captain as Joe Quinn.

In the 9 hole competition, the team of Holly MacMain, Mark MacMain, Anne Mallard & Robert Craxton won with nett 31.6.

In the 18 hole competition we saw low scoring once more and a gross 59 was still not good enough to win overall.

Tour news

Back in the winner's circle...

It was a 9th PGA Tour win for tour favourite Matt Kuchar, as he claimed victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Kuchar carded a final round of 66, finishing on -22, four shots clear of Andrew Putnam in second place. It wasn’t all plain sailing for Kuchar, with bogeys in three of his first five holes on Sunday, but a resurgent back-nine saw a comfortable win in the end.

It was Kuchar’s second win on tour this season, just 64 days after winning the Mayakoba Classic in November; a real change in fortunes, when you consider he had to wait four years between his seventh and eighth PGA Tour victories.

On the Ladies European Tour, England’s Charley Hull took a wire-to-wire triumph at the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in Abu Dhabi, for her second win on tour. It was a real test of nerve at the finish, with Hull splashing out of a bunker on the 18th, before saving par with a great putt to give her the win by one stroke.
