Colin Green Trophy stays at home
A nett 66 was good enough to secure the latest home win for the Colin Green Trophy at the Men’s Open at the end of August. Malcolm pipped Andrew Nicholson on a count back to win the main prize in the very large field for this years’ Open.
Golfers from Dunfermline, Sale, Royston, Birmingham and many local clubs joined previous winners Glenn Cottrell, Steve Hemmings and Larry Holder to try and capture this prestigious title.
Malcolm fought off the challenge of Northampton’s Gary Slinn and Alan Turton from Ullesthorpe who finished 1 and 2 shots respectively behind. Tony Adams from Princes won Division 1 and Steve Watton of Enville won the gross prize for the day with a 72 just beating Tom Bullough of NCGC on a countback. Andrew Nicholson was the winner of Division 2 and another NCGC stalwart, Laurie Johnson won the third division with a net 69 and past winner Steve Hemmings was successful in Division 4.
The handicaps of the players this year were generally the lowest we have seen in this event with the Divisions being up to 5, 6-8, 9-11 and 12 plus - quite a quality field.
Another tremendous Colin Green Open – good golfing, good company, good field with lots of good comments about the course and the Club from our many visitors. If you want to play next year download an entry form in October and book early to get the time you want to tee off..
