Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly newsletter. In this week's email, we explore which golf ball is best suited to your budget, we take our first glance at a new product to hit the market, and we reveal the answer to last week's poll.

Competition news

Open Qualifying

The course looked excellent for Monday with fairways golden and greens fast running. It was the hottest day of the year so far and the course looked amazing.

Club members were in place and ready for the first plyers to teed off at 7.30 am on Monday.

Calum Farr the only club member in the field was seen off by the club Captain who was acting starter at that time in the morning.

The score board was kept up to date by members

At the end for the first time there was no play off. Exactly 10 players went through to next rounds

Ladies news

Ladies Club Championship

Sunday the Course will be closed from 8.30am to 2.40pm for the 36 hole Championship.

NGL County Ladies Week

Members Hattie Billson and Charlotte Taylor played for Ladies NGL team in County week at Denham.

Junior news

Fund Raising Coaching

To help raise much needed funds for the Junior section, Mark is running lessons on Saturday 28th July with all proceeds going to the junior section. There are only a few slots left. All the lessons are an hour and will be in our swing studio allowing golfers to experience the technology and the benefits to their game.

Junior Club Championship

The Junior Club Championship had an exciting finish to it with 5 players tied on nett 69 for Best Nett and the Gross competition needing a play off to decide the winner.

Corey Neville won the The Jones Cup (Best Nett) courtesy of better back 3.

The Allitt Cup (Best Gross) - Charlie Salter eagled the 18th in regulation play to tie playing partner Joe Quinn on gross 70. The two headed out for sudden death playoff over holes 1 & 18. Charlie’s eagle on the 18th sealed the win for him. Most golfers score 6 on the 18th in one attempt not twice! Very impressive play from Charlie to eagle it twice in a row. Joe Quinn continues to carry on his great from.

In the 9 hole Cup, there was a runaway winner with Emily Nunn scoring 26 points! Runner Up was Aidan Jaggard with 21 points.

We had 22 juniors competing on the day, which is a testament to the hard work put in by our Junior Committee and the support of the parents. Thanks to all who attended and stayed to support the play off.

Junior B Team

The Junior B team had their first league match last week at home against Overstone. Unfortunately the result favoured the away team 3.5-0.5 with Emily Nunn claiming the half point.

First one way, now the other

The U.S. Open had everything from the sublime to the ridiculous, and it’s safe to say that the course set-up played a huge part in this. With much of the debate centred around whether the USGA made conditions too tricky or not, we posed this very question to you over the past week on our website poll and here are the results:

75% of you believe the USGA got it wrong at Shinnecock Hills

It really does make for interesting reading. Just a couple of months ago we asked you whether you’d prefer to see 20-under-par win a tournament or two-over-par, and the results were the complete reverse. On that occasion, 82% voted in favour of seeing the world’s best struggle to make a score, which is exactly what happened at the U.S. Open.
