Tour news

Broad’y does it again

While all eyes may have been at Wentworth on Sunday our Touring Pro Paul Broadhurst won his second major the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship in the USA.

Paul shot 8-under 63 at Harbor Shores to claim his second senior Major Senior championship title.

Paul Broadhurst wishes he had played this well in his 23 years on the European Tour.

"I know a lot more about my swing now and I guess you get that with age and experience," the 52-year-old Englishman said after shooting an 8-under 63 on Sunday to win the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship by four strokes and match the best 72-hole score in tournament history.

Paul Broadhurst's putter was hot on Sunday as he pulled away to win by four shots.

Paul finished at 19-under 265 at Harbor Shores for his second senior major victory. The 63 was the best fourth-round score by a winner. Rocco Mediate also shot 19 under at Harbor Shores in 2016.

Also the 2016 British Senior Open winner, Paul led the field with 26 birdies and passed third-round co-leaders Tim Petrovic and Mark McCarron with a 4-under 31 on the back nine.

Broadhurst earned a career-high $585,000 for his fourth PGA TOUR Champions victory and moved to the top of the money list. He won six times on the European Tour, was a 1991 Ryder Cup player for Europe and has three European Senior Tour victories.

Paul shot 72 in the first round, started rolling in putts with a 66 in the second round and was 15 under on the weekend.

It’s shaping up to be a classic

With the Ryder Cup just four months to go until Europe battle America for the Ryder Cup in Paris, we thought we’d take a little look at how the teams are shaping up. If you take the world rankings as any sort of guide, you’ll notice that nine of the top 20 are Europeans and eight of the top 20 are Americans. That’s 17 of the world’s top 20 golfers potentially going toe-to-toe in one of the most eagerly anticipated match-ups in Ryder Cup history.

An exciting win

I’m absolutely delighted to report a very exciting win by our tremendous Cecil Leitch team against Overstone away by 4 matches to 3. It was a very closely fought match with two pairs going down the 19th hole, and the result dependent on the very last pair to finish. Our team comprised Mary Wetherley, Celia Edwards, Di Murkin, Viv McManus, Geeta Patel, Andrea Alston and Dawn Mallard Parker.

Very many congratulations to them, and I just hope we can keep up this success for the rest of the season!

Ladies Boutique

Friday 1st June the shop will be turned into a ladies boutique for one day only.

Junior news

England Golf Boys County Championships

Several of our juniors were competing for Northamptonshire in the England Golf Boys County Championships this week.

The County team narrowly missed out on winning the team event but Joe Quinn took the individual honours with gross 69 & 66 to win by 1.

Members' news

NGL Open

The rain came for the 36 hole NGL Open at Wellingborough. Club members Charlie Salter and Michael Farr 3rd and 5th with Adam just inside the top 10.

A momentous victory

Northamptonshire vs Nottinghamshire Seniors

24th May 2018 - Peterborough Milton Golf Club

A practice round on Tuesday at Peterborough Milton GC proved invaluable on what was a difficult fast running course.

With five new players: - G Shelton, D Jessup, A Soper, H Boylan & R Brown the County managed to come out of the morning foursome’s 4.5 to 1.5 ahead.

This buffer set the squad up for a first ever victory over Nottinghamshire 13.5 to 4.5. (The second only loss Nott’s have had in the history of the league).

The team are now looking forward to the Cambridgeshire match away at the Gogs on the 29th May 2018.
