Spring Meeting proved a stern test for all who played. The morning played firm and fast and the afternoon showers added to the difficulty. A superb gross 67 in the morning from Charlie Salter was the standout score. Impressive scores from Andy Castell, Joe Quinn, Luis Witherall and Simon Richmond. In the afternoon Charlie turned into his back 9 at 1 under par (3 under par total) for a comfortable lead before some mistakes late on in the rain made for an interesting finish. Meanwhile Luis Witherall recorded a 1 under 69 in the afternoon to eventually lose out on the gross by 1 shot to Charlie. Simon Richmond backed up his morning round of 76 with 77 in the afternoon to finish runner up in the nett.

All the matches were very close with two going on to the 19th and 20th holes respectively, but we didn’t manage to pull it off this time. Hopefully we’ll return to winning form in the next match!

| The club Tiger used for his latest stinger at The Players |
|
Sawgrass has a ‘sting’ in its tail Last week the golfing world descended on Ponte Vedra, Florida for golf’s unofficial fifth major, The Players Championship. Played on the TPC Sawgrass stadium course, it boasts one of the most iconic holes in the golf, the infamous par three 17th hole. The field included a resurgent Tiger Woods and fans were in awe of his impressive ‘stinger’ off the tee. Tiger started slowly, but weekend rounds of 65 & 69 saw him climb the leaderboard to a tied 11th place. |
|
The eventual winner, Webb Simpson, had become a bit of a forgotten major champion with no win on tour for over 5 years. He had struggled with the ban of the anchored stroke he used for his belly putter. He finally settled on a longer handle that ran up the left side of his arm, and then Tim Clark gave him the missing link at The Players a year ago when Clark suggested he also use a claw grip. Simpson has been working his way back to the golf he expects to play and now ranks 5th in strokes gained putting and holed an unbelievable amount over the stadium course. If you would like to improve your putting or learn how to hit the ‘Tiger stinger’ then speak to a member of the team for a lesson. Contact me here. |
