Match Report
I’m absolutely delighted to report a very exciting win by our tremendous Cecil Leitch team against Overstone away this afternoon by 4 matches to 3. It was a very closely fought match with two pairs going down the 19th hole, and the result dependent on the very last pair to finish. Our team comprised Mary Wetherley, Celia Edwards, Di Murkin, Viv McManus, Geeta Patel, Andrea Alston and Dawn Mallard Parker. Very many congratulations to them, and I just hope we can keep up this success for the rest of the season! Kind regards Di Murkin Cecil Leitch Captain

First match of the season The Seniors first match of the season due to be played at Luffenham was cancelled due to excessive rain. Our second match at Tadmarton Heath very nearly was also cancelled but with both teams keen to play the match was eventually started. Brian May and Paul Phillips had a very good win 8/7but the waterlogged greens had their say with Brian having 5 putts on a par 3. Another good result was Steve Battison and Peter Darby who were 3 down with 4 to play and ended up with an honourable draw. The match was won by Tadmarton 4:3 but a very gritty performance by our seniors. Here hoping for a dry day for our next match.

County Seniors Match Members Alan Wrigley and Mike Abbots played in the County seniors match last week away to Suffolk. Alan is also the County Seniors’ Captain and with the team winning 9 ½ to 5 ½ he was rather happy!

Weekly Round up Members Ben Jones, Callum Farr and Charlie Salter were away competing in The Lytham Trophy last week, many of the previous winners have gone to a professional playing career. Ben finished tied 27th with rounds of 73,74,73 & 73 (+13). Callum & Charlie unfortunately missed the cut with rounds of 76 & 78 for Callum and 81 & 79 for Charlie. Callum Farr we can confirm has moved to number 483 in the Amateur World Ranking. Luis Witherall competed in the Fairhaven last week, opening up with a 74 and 77 it wasn’t quite enough to make the cut at +1.
The Fairhaven might not have gone to plan for Luis but he received some extremely good news with a call up to The England Under 16’s match against Spain later this month. Well done Luis! |

Ireland triumph as others impress Whilst many of you spent the Bank Holiday weekend basking in glorious sunshine – and we don’t blame you – 16 pairs battled it out in the second edition of GolfSixes. Split into four round-robin groups to begin with, only the top two pairs from each could proceed to the quarter-final stage, which saw both all-female teams (England Women and European Women) make it through to the final eight. Sadly, both female teams failed to advance to the semi-finals, with England Women losing out to eventual winners Ireland, represented by Gavin Moynihan (who has failed to make a single cut so far this season) and Paul Dunne. Ahead of golf’s unofficial fifth major taking place at TPC Sawgrass this weekend, Australia’s Jason Day has returned to world’s top 10 after a superb display at the Wells Fargo Championship. Taking place at Quail Hollow – the scene of last year’s PGA Championship – Day shot a gritty 69 on Sunday to finish two clear of his nearest challenger, admitting afterwards that he ‘had no idea where the ball was going, especially off the tee.’ For those of you wondering, yes Tiger Woods did play but he finished in a lowly tied 55th. |

Perfect for cooler rounds Yes, we've enjoyed a record-breaking Early May Bank Holiday weekend without a sweater in sight, but the reality is temperatures will soon get a little cooler over the coming days. To combat the chill whilst on the course, especially early mornings or late evenings, consider a ProQuip quilted windproof, which provide lightweight warmth whilst blocking out any wind. |

Let’s face it: we all want to hit the ball further. Being able to hit longer drives gives you less club into the green, making everything that little bit easier. There are many ways you can try and generate more power during your swing, and nearly all of them start from the ground up. |
Trust your footwear Despite his small frame, tour star Rickie Fowler is renowned for his power. As you can see in the three images above, he pushes off from his right foot through impact and relies on great grip and stability to ensure the power his body is creating doesn’t come at the cost of control. Having a strong base is something we should all aspire for. The FootJoy Tour-S can help you do this thanks to its PowerStrap that enhances support, plus its nine cleats per foot that offer maximum stability across a range of terrains. |
