Scratch League

The Scratch League clinched the division 1 title for the first time in 6 years on Sunday in a nail biting encounter against Peterborough Milton.

With the game being nip and tuck throughout it was left to Paul Harris and Jack Brown on the course with both arguably holing the winning putt. Captain Harry Larkins would like to thank everybody who came to support on the day and all the players that played throughout the season. 2014 NGU Boys Championship held at Overstone 8th August 2014

The clubs junior boys were out in force for this year's County Boys championships. In the gross Matthew Myers lead the way at 6 under par chased home by our Club Champion Ben Jones who is also a member at Brampton Heath.

The club had 8 players in the top 13 with ages varying from 11 to 18.

In the Nett it was a similar with 11 players in the top 16

Running alongside the championships are a number of team events. The Scottish Cup is a Junior Inter Team 3 out of 4 to count competition. The clubs A & B teams taking 1st and Second places as the scores were converted to stapleford points.

In the Shoe & Leather Trophy Junior Inter Team 2 out of 4 the clubs A&B team finished 2nd & 3rd.

The Club has 5 boys playing the British Boys Championships this week at Prestwick

The seniors suffered defeat in the local derby match with Kingsthorpe on 5th August. The results being;

Roger Street ,Neil Hufton
lost 6/5
William Wells ,Paul Phillips lost 4/3
David Kerr ,Steve Battison won 4/3
Ron Steedman,Bob Andrews halved
Ray Kingston,Arvind Kacchia won 3/1
Tony Bishop,Peter Darby lost 5/4

Some heavy losses there though I am reliably informed the opposition performed exceptionally. Roger Street and Neil Hufton ,for example, being on the receiving end of two 20 handicappers being level par better ball when losing on the twelfth hole! It's obviously tough in bandit country!!

Worth a mention is another appearance and win for Ray Kingston. His partners must of course help but he does keep churning the victories out.

Lastly a mention for the home club Kinsthorpe their course, catering and hospitality were excellent.

Michael Curley said "We were delighted to win this tournament - we have been participating in it for the last 10 years! It is also a pleasure to play such wonderful golf courses and in a beautiful part of the countryside. We both played very steady for the four rounds which put us in a winning position."
