Ladies Captains Day 1st July

Ladies Captain Di Murkin arranged a shotgun start 4 ball better ball for the Ladies section on Tuesday. All the played enjoyed the fantastic weather a real treat as it rained at Wimbledon.

The latest Ladies Scratch League matches have been held at Wellingborough GC. Northants County were up against Northampton Golf Club and were successful by two matches to one. The team were Rachel Smith, Angela Duck and Sue Barrick. This was a hard fought encounter with one match going down the 19th and Rachel Smith overcoming the current County Champion 1 Up.

County MatchThe County Ladies have been playing in the annual County Match Week at Northampton Golf Club. This was a very successful event with everything going smoothly thanks to the hard work of many volunteers and masterminded by the County Captain, Theresa East. Despite two stoppages for thunder and lightning thankfully the weather was on the whole kind with sunshine on most days.

Northamptonshire were hopeful right up to the last match having won 3 matches and halved another. Buckinghamshire got the honours in the end despite losing to Northants on Day 1. Charlotte Taylor from NCGC played four singles matches for the County, and won three of them. Well done Charlotte.

Saturday Medal

Result of the day went to Michael Farr winning the Gross and nett with a level par round off 2 nett 68 Michaels new handicap is 1. Phil Thomas was the only other player to better Par with a nett 69. Thunder storms delayed play on Saturday. Lightening was spotted by players who immediately stopped play and took shelter.

A reminder of rule 6-8 - Discontinuance of Play; Resumption of Play a. When Permitted The player must not discontinue play unless:
(i) the Committee has suspended play;
(ii) he believes there is danger from lightning;
(iii) he is seeking a decision from the Committee on a doubtful or disputed point (see Rules 2-5 and 34-3)
(iv) there is some other good reason such as sudden illness.

Bad weather is not of itself a good reason for discontinuing play. If the player discontinues play without specific permission from the Committee, he must report to the Committee as soon as practicable. If he does so and the Committee considers his reason satisfactory, there is no penalty. Otherwise, the player is disqualified. Exception in match play: Players discontinuing match play by agreement are not subject to disqualification, unless by so doing the competition is delayed.

Note: Leaving the course does not of itself constitute discontinuance

Titleist Vokey SM5 wedges

From deep greenside rough, use your bunker technique. Move the ball forward in your stance, open the face and keep your torso rotating to the finish. The new grooves in Titleist’s Vokey SM5 wedges will help too; tests show they increase backspin by up to 500rpm from long grass.

Take advantage of our expertise

It’s easy to trial a friend’s driver when your form with the woods dips. And whilst you might stumble across better results, long term it’s not the answer. With our expertise we can determine the proper loft and shaft flex that will suit your swing and, ultimately, save you shots.
