European Tour returns to the UK
Each year, the week before the spring bank holiday, Wentworth Club plays host to the BMW PGA Championship; the European Tour's flagship event. It's one of the few times each year where we get the chance to see some of the world's best golfers compete on our shores.
It really is a stellar field this year. Defending champion Chris Wood will face some stiff competition from a host of rising stars such as Tyrrell Hatton, Andy Sullivan and Matthew Fitzpatrick, not to mention major champions Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose. It's going to be a belter.
Many of our members head to Wentworth this week to watch the BMW PGA Championship. One member Martin Bayfield is there for the week as official starter so give him a wave. Unfortunately Rory has had to pull out through injury but Ian Poulter has joined the field. Enjoy your visit.
One other person who will be teeing up in Surrey this week is past Ryder Cup player Edoardo Molinari. Now it's always interesting to learn a bit more about Tour golfers and what they get up to in their spare time, but you'll never believe Molinari's hidden talent…

On the course this week...
Last week was quite a challenging week. From the best golfing weather and possibly one of the driest springs we've experienced for many years, we descended into days of heavy downpours and flooded greens. In fact we've had more rain in the past 7 days than the whole of March and April combined. The forecast for this week looks a lot better, let's hope we can dry out a little.
Monday - Topdress greens and finish topdressing fairways.
- Continue work on front entrance border.
- Overseed weak areas around paths and bunkers.
- Continue clearing through gorse copses.
- If the wind stays calm, apply selective weed killer on fairways and green surrounds.
