A Cut above
On Course this week the greens have been verti cut before a light top dressing. The height of cut on the green is now reduced to 3.5mil. With the grass still growing thick and fast some of the routine jobs are having to be carried out while play is under way. The rough is still being scarified to help thin it out with the Amazone on the back of the tractor. Some of the jobs such as strimming Bunker surrounds will have the greens staff wearing protective head gear, please remember to give way to them with noisy machinery they may not always hear your shouts.
A mixed up weekend

Spring Open was held last Friday on of the few nice sunny days in between what has been some very wet ones. Ladies came from far and wide to play in the 4 ball Am Am 7 /8ths handicap team event. We understand that Heather Williams was the only club member to be in the prizes with 4th place.
PING 4 ball Better Ball 4th June:
There is a true story that has gone down in England golf history for its humour rather than its result. Club member Robert Duck made the England team some years back and was paired in a foursomes match with Luke Donald. The pairing on the match sheet read Donald, Duck . This story came back to me as I wrote this week’s results...
1st Dawn Mallard & Angela Duck 42 pts
2nd Louise Hemingway & Kerry Spooner 41 pts
3rd Sue McRae & Stephanie Goodings 41 pts
CECIL LEITCH
On Saturday 31st May the Cecil Leitch team played their match Away at Cold Ashby.
The team was Mary Wetherly, Diana Murkin, Louise Hemingway, Jill Slinn, Diana Wells, Geeta Patel and Dawn Mallard-Parker.
Sadly the team lost 4 games to 3 but all the losing games were very close with some going to the last hole.
Heather Williams the team Captain felt they had all done well, as after the torrential rain during the week the course was playing very long and was very wet.
The next match is on Sunday 15th June Away at Whittlebury Park
Juniors have you entered the Club junior championship on 22nd June great prizes and chance for the leading players to play in other events.
The Presidents match against Market Harborough has been played for many a year. Unfortunately I do not know who is on top over the years of home and away matches but please to report this result was 5 – 1 for the home team.

John is away this week working at the US Open but he was busy last week retaining the Family Foursomes title he and son Steve won last year.
NGU President Dave Foley with the 2014 winners Steve Rowley and John Rowley.
John and Steve Rowley retained their NGU Family Foursomes title after the father-and-son combination won the 2014 event on countback at Rushden. The Rowleys, who triumphed last year at Kingsthorpe, took the honours from the Brampton Heath husband-and-wife duo of Ricky and Karen Bowman after both carded the leading mark of 34 points.
Wellingborough’s Ashley Connolly and Ryan Connolly (33) finished third on countback from the Northampton father-and-son partnership of Darren Matthews and Jordan Matthews.
The ProAm on 14th July is open to members it’s not just a visitor event. For the members who host guests its great value when compared to a Rugby and football matches. You and your guest will meet 1 hour before play for coffee and a bacon roll before warming up on the range. Gifts will be given to each player before teeing off. On the course there are refreshments at various points on the way around. After play there is a 3 course meal before collecting the prizes won on the way. There is numerous nearest the pins and other hole prizes as well as the 6 team prizes in the main event. On average players are together for 7 – 8 hours with humorous banter and stories to tell what a great day to share.
It’s not too late to enter details are on the clubs web site
In the shop this week we have Ensured the new club logoed clothing is in prime position to ensure you cannot miss the great range of colours and styles for this season. While I know you would like the 'story' behind the products the technology, fit, performance qualities and of course how easy it is to wash and iron the fact is they look great on.
