A unique record
Twenty six years after winning the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award, Paul Broadhurst achieved a notable double by scooping the Senior Tour equivalent.
Broadhurst won the 1989 Cannes Open on his debut campaign on The European Tour, eventually finishing the highest new comer to take Rookie of the Year. Fast forward 26 years, Paul claimed the European Senior Tour Rookie of the Year award after a top ten finish in the season-ending MCB Tour Championship secured 12th place on the Order of Merit.
Just 1 year later Paul has become the 2016 Rookie of the Year on the Champions tour in the USA. Paul posted two wins in 12 starts, claiming The Senior Open Championship and the PURE Insurance Championship. With his win at the PURE Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links in September, he joined Tom Watson and Ben Hogan as the only players in history to claim professional titles at each venue. Broadhurst is the first player to earn multiple wins on the way to Rookie of the Year honours since Rocco Mediate in 2013 and the only player we know of to claim Rookie of the year on all 3 Tours.
