The final round of Scratch League matches were played last Sunday in glorious conditions at Whittlebury Park GC. Sadly neither Overstone Park GC (our opposition) not Peterborough Milton GC (playing WellingboroughGC) could field a full team and in the event Peterborough M did not arrive due to an accident on the A45.
Result was:
Rachel Smith beat Gill Hodgson 7/6, Hattie Billson, in her first scratch league match beat Margo Lerin 6/5 (she was 7 up after 9 holes). Sue Barrick had the w/o. This was an excellent result and after a hard fought battle gave NCGC the runners up spot.
Wellingborough won the Shield this year but they have been warned that we intend to retrieve top spot again next year.
Thanks to all players this year and over the last three years. I am now retiring so it is over to someone else to captain the team but I have received top support from everyone and we now look magnificent in our new shirts.
Please note the date of the County Dinner on Friday, 7 October. The list is up in the locker room and all members are welcome. John Virgo is the speaker. Please come as it is usually a really good evening.

Captain 2016
Two matches to report on. Firstly we hosted a match against Burford on Friday, 16 September. Having lost narrowly in the earlier fixture at their course we were obviously keen to have our revenge. This was achieved comprehensively with a score of 5.5 to 0.5.
The stand out match score being provided by Nigel Kay and David Whalley who prevailed 6 and 5. Next up was Luffenham again at home on Monday, 19 September. This is a fixture which is very longstanding and in the more recent years has involved playing for The Brampton Buck. This was the 27th year of playing for the trophy on a home and away basis.
Having left Luffenham defeated 5 to 3 in April this year we needed to pull out the stops to regain the trophy. This we managed to do by edging past them on aggregate by winning 5.5 to 2.5. Stand out result this time was a 7 and 6 victory for Peter Miller and William Wells. The records now show that over the years County have now won the trophy 18 times to Luffenhams 9.

Paul's First win in the USA
The Nature Valley first tee open at Pebble Beach is Paul's first win on the PGA Champions Tour.
Paul birdied the last to finish 11 under, 1 ahead of Bernhard Langer and Kevin Sutherland.
This week:
- Topdress fairways - hopefully Monday if the forecast improves a little.
- Topdress greens - Wednesday.
- Overseed the 1st green in couple of directions. The surface is thinner than I'm happy with - more than likely Tuesday late on after the ladies have gone out.
- Continue with gorse copses.
- Weed paths and around club house.
- Divot tees.
